Leah Wright: A Passionate Advocate for Animal Well-being

Leah’s love and enthusiasm for animals was inevitable growing up in a busy household full of German Shepherds and her animal enthusiastic parents. Her passion for working with animals began at a very young age, shaped by witnessing her father, a farrier, operate within his forge and tailor shoe horses with varying demands, and helping her mother manage and care for their horses at the field.

Growing up with horses allowed Leah to gain invaluable experience, from competing highly and successfully within mounted games, pony racing and learning polo x through pony club, successfully show jumping her warmblood Nass to 1.20m, to dancing within the white board with her PRE stallion. These experiences allow Leah to safely and effectively handle horses during her work life. Leah, like her father and mother, has made her passion a profession by working as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in the animal welfare field. But Leah's career did not begin here; she had always wanted to be a veterinarian, but after graduating from college, she was inspired by a local saddler and completed her apprenticeship with distinction four years later. During her apprenticeship, however, Leah got interested in the fitting of the equipment and how it impacted the axial skeleton if not done correctly, which rekindled her interest in the Veterinary sector.

As you can expect within a busy household full of animals Leah’s experienced the heartache of her animals receiving a diagnosis, with her most recent German Shepherd being diagnosed with hip dysplasia and degenerative myelopathy in her later years. During the management of her dog's diagnosis Leah’s curiosity led her to delve further into researching ways to successfully manage these conditions, which led to her interest within Veterinary Physiotherapy.  With an already burning desire to improve the fitting of take and her desire to assist in improving her dogs life as well as recognizing the significant impact this discipline could have on improving animal health and well-being, Leah decided to pursue a career in Veterinary Physiotherapy wholeheartedly.

Leah has since qualified with first class honors and is treating a variety of interesting canine and equine cases across South East England,  improving each individual's quality of life. Leah also works within equine and canine hydrotherapy seeing various conditions and creating efficient and effective rehabilitation regimes. Leah's passion for improving animal welfare hasn’t stopped her though, Leah is now undertaking more qualifications which will hopefully lead her to successfully applying to Veterinary Medicine in 2024.
